Hampshire couple are inspired by their sons to create first online sports diary: A Hampshire couple with sporting sons have been inspired to create the world’s first online diary for grassroots sports.
Eamonn and Janet Manners from Fleet launched My Team Diary as a better way to track the progress of their sons Jamie and Justin through their grassroots football careers. And now they’ve launched the online scrapbook as a business across the whole of the UK. Former semi-professional and Chelsea youth player Eamonn said: “We love watching our sons playing for their teams, as all parents do. But we felt there must be a better way to maintain their long term passion for the sport and give us all something to look back on over the years. “Children who have tested it tell us My Team Diary is great fun to use, as it’s all about capturing the details of the things they love the best. Recording their sporting activities in their own words encourages academic as well as sporting development.” Young players use MyTeamDiary.com as an online scrapbook to record all the details of their early sports careers. They can record match reports, team sheets and squad details. All pages can be emailed and printed. Diaries can be purchased by entire clubs and teams as well as single players. The idea has been lavished with praise, with Dragon’s Den’s Peter Jones describing it as “a winner”, and the FA’s Grassroots Coach of the Year 2006-2007 John Scott saying “it will benefit any team at almost any level”. Eamonn added: “This is such a simple idea and a great way for parents and coaches to encourage learning and development through sport. That’s a powerful way to help children get the most out of their leisure time, while still having fun.” |
